Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the timeline?

Applications to table at the zine fest open on October 18th 2022 and close on November 17th 2022. We will let tablers know by the beginning of January 2023 and you’ll have a week to confirm. The zine festival is running over the weekend of Feburary 18th and 19th 2023.

How much does it cost to table?

A half table costs £10 per day. This reflects the costs of hiring tables and chairs (we don’t make a profit from EZF, and last year we were £100 in the red). We are working with half tables as standard as this allows us to be more flexible with numbers and also social distancing if Covid restrictions are still necessary. We are offering subsidised tables to zinesters who otherwise would not be able to attend.

How big are tables?

Tables are 6ft x 2ft (same as last year) and we are offering half tables as standard, so you’ll have about 3ft x 2ft to work with. Check out photos from last year to get a sense of how much space this is.

How do I apply?

You need to apply through our CuratorSpace page - which you can find here. If you don’t have an account already, you’ll need to make one. We are handling applications through CuratorSpace because we are working in tandem with Fruitmarket’s Artist Bookmarket, and because it means we can easily keep your personal details secure.

How will you decide tablers?

After the closing date we will come together as a group to figure out tables. If we are oversubscribed, we will work according to a set of priorities laid out in our To The Front policy.

What’s the deal with the financial support?

We recognise that cost can be a barrier to tabling at zine fests, especially for people already marginalised. Because we want the zine fest to be as accessible as possible, we are offering to subsidise table costs for zinesters who otherwise wouldn’t be able to access the zine fest. We are also applying for funding to contribute to travel and accommodation costs, or other costs such as covering caring responsibilities for the duration of the fest. We’re asking about this informally in the tabling application just to support our funding applications, and it won’t affect your application. You also don’t need to justify or provide evidence for support. We find the SQIFF sliding scale useful, and we suggest that if you’d qualify for free or £2 tickets there, then you could consider requesting support to table.

What about Covid?

We are aware that Covid continues to be a very real risk, especially for disabled and vulnerable members of our community. With the zine fest happening after winter, we anticipate that it will be alongside a spike in cases. We will likely take similar precautions to EZF 2022, including requesting mask wearing.
