Zine Workshops and Events

Upcoming Events:

Prisoner Solidarity Zine Workshop, 2-4pm, Sun 24 Nov, EMBASSY

Fundraiser for Families in Gaza

Join us for an afternoon of zine reading, making and taking action to support people who have been imprisoned for protesting against the ongoing Palestinian genocide.

All welcome - you don't need to have any previous experience of prisoner support - this will be a space to both share experience and knowledge and learn from others.

This event is raising desperately-needed funds for families in Gaza, many of whom have been displaced multiple times and are struggling to survive the inflated costs of food, medicine and shelter.

Tickets are by donation with a suggested minimum donation of £10, and all proceeds will go directly to families in Gaza.

You can also donate via this link: https://chuffed.org/project/113161-help-suhail-and-his-family-survive-the-war-on-gaza

For access info about EMBASSY see: https://www.embassygallery.org/accessibility/

We expect you to wear a face mask if you are able - we will have free N95s available on the door.

Book your place via eventbrite.

Event Requests:

We have run zine workshops and events around Edinburgh and Scotland. As well as running our own workshops, we have collaborated with a number of local organisations to run workshops, including The Welcoming, V&A Dundee, LEAP Sports Scotland, Highlands and Islands Student Association and Transpride Scotland.

We aren’t currently accepting any new workshop requests.

Edinburgh Zine Library is a voluntary run community organisation and we have a broad set of rules for organising and (co-)facilitating workshops. These include:

  • All workshops must meet our safer spaces policy. We do not run workshops with organisations or in spaces which do not agree to this policy – in words or actions.

  • We always offer a sliding scale for our workshops - with a lower end of £0. We believe that Zine Workshops should be accessible to all, regardless of income.

  • We want workshops to be as accessible as possible, and will prioritise organisations that can demonstrate a similar committment to accessibility – both in physical terms, and in other ways (eg. explicity trans-inclusive workshops, provisions for childcare or attendee’s travel costs, COVID-19 mitigations). Simultaneously, we acknowledge that the precarious nature of DIY organising can often make these feel unachieveable and we are interested in working with partners, including other grassroots, unfunded and diy organisations, to produce workshops that are accessible.

We charge for workshops on a sliding scale and reserve a small number of pro-bono workshops for grassroots, DIY or activist groups. We decide this on a case by case basis, please just send us an email.

If you are unsure if your organisation meets these criteria, or you’ve not come across notions like ‘safer spaces’ before, please get in touch. We aren’t willing to debate, and we don’t always have the energy or resources, but if we can we will happily elaborate on our position and discuss it in relation to a possible collaboration or workshop.

If you’re interested in inviting us to run a workshop for your organisation please get in touch via edinburghzinelibrary@gmail.com
