Join us for an small but mighty programme of events, panels and workshops as part of Edinburgh Zine Festival 2024.

Zines as/and Performance

Monday 6th February, 6- 8.00pm.

Zoom / Donations welcome

This panel will explore the connection between zines & performance and ways zines themselves can be considered ‘performance’. With contributions from Klara Szafranska & Hamish MacPherson, they will join Edinburgh Zine Library member Natifah White to share their experience of zine & performance-making as well as discuss the connection (and potential) between the two practices.

This event will include a pre-recorded panel discussion, followed by a live Q&A with panel members. The event will be on zoom - links will be sent out the day before.

This event will be live captioned. Any questions email zines@edinburghzinelibrary.com

EZF x Quizogny Quiz Night!

Thursday 6th February, 6 - 7.30pm.

Zoom / £5 per team

Join us on zoom for a special EZF 2024 quiz, hosted by Quizogny - an intersectional feminist pub quiz zine fighting the patriarchy over five rounds.

Expect challenging (but fun) questions and amazing zine themed prizes (did someone say long armed stapler?)

The practical stuff:

  • Teams of up to 5 people

  • Only one person needs to sign up per team.

  • Links will be shared the day before.

  • You'll need a means of communicating with your team outside the zoom room eg. Signal, WhatsApp, being together in the same space.

  • You are welcome to play as a solo quizzer, but if you're on your own and want to be put in a team, choose the 'I need a team' ticket option.

The quiz will be captioned, and all visual questions will have image descriptions. Any questions email zines@edinburghzinelibrary.com

Driving Your Players Mad: An RPG workshop (In Person)

Saturday 10th February, 10-11.15am

Fruitmarket / £5 (PWYC tickets available) / 16+

Games don't have to be fun. In this workshop we'll look at how you can communicate about your own experiences by changing how you present choices in your games. What happens when choices are boring or frustrating? What if some choices are easier than others? We'll look at a number of examples from different media, including books, zines and video games and discuss how they make their players feel, and then how you might design choices to mimic your own experiences.

Beyond Mini Zines

Sunday 11th February, 10-11.15am

Fruitmarket / £5 (PWYC tickets available) / 16+

We love an 8-page mini zine folded from a single sheet - they're easy to make and reproduce, and are perfectly pocket sized for sharing. But what other shapes, folds and forms can zines take? At this relaxed workshop, we'll explore different ways of folding and binding zines - toeing the blurry line between zines and artists' books and exploring questions of reproduction, form, and labour. Bring along a fold or form - zine, artist book or otherwise - you want to share, or come open to learning and exploring. This workshop is open to both zine makers and artist bookmakers, and is designed to encourage a dialogue between these two genres of self-publishing.
